Maharashtra Man Beaten to Death in Karnataka Over Alleged Affair; Two Arrested

A 27-year-old man from Maharashtra was allegedly beaten to death in Karnataka's Bidar district over suspicions of an extramarital affair, police said. The deceased, identified as Vishnu, was a resident of Gaunagaon village in Maharashtra's Nanded district.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed at Chintaki Police Station, officers received information that a man had been tied up and assaulted in Chintaki village. When police reached the spot, they found Vishnu in a semi-conscious state with multiple injuries. He was rushed to the Chintaki Government Hospital and later shifted to Bidar BRIMS Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Dispute Over Relationship

The FIR, based on a complaint by Vishnu's mother Lakshmi, stated that her son had been in a relationship with a married woman named Pooja for about a year. Pooja had reportedly left her husband to live with Vishnu, but returned to her parental home in Naganapalli three months ago.

On Tuesday, Vishnu, accompanied by two acquaintances, went to meet Pooja at the Hanuman temple in Naganapalli. There, Pooja's father Ashok and brother Gajanan allegedly confronted him. Accusing Vishnu of having an illicit relationship with Pooja, the duo allegedly dragged him outside the temple and attacked him with sticks.

Assault Video Goes Viral

A disturbing video of the assault has been widely circulated on social media. The footage purportedly shows Vishnu tied up and lying on the ground as Ashok and Gajanan repeatedly beat him with sticks while he pleads for help.

Case Upgraded to Murder

Initially, police registered a case under Sections 109, 118(1), 352, and 127(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After Vishnu's death, murder charges were added to the FIR. Both Ashok and Gajanan have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, officials confirmed.
