Maharashtra Leaders Honour Legacy of Manmohan Singh, Esteemed Economist and Statesman
Maharashtra's political leaders expressed their condolences over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, NCP SP president Sharad Pawar, and others highlighted Singh's contributions as a scholar, statesman, and economist. Singh, aged 92, passed away in Delhi. Fadnavis noted Singh's role in economic reforms and his decade-long service as PM, stating these achievements will be remembered.

Sharad Pawar described Singh as a visionary reformer and global statesman. "Deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India. Our nation has lost one of its greatest economists, a visionary reformist, and a global statesman," said Pawar. He added that Singh's legacy will inspire future generations.
Impact on Economic Development
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar remarked on Singh's vision as pivotal for India's economic progress. "Deeply saddened by the news of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh ji's demise. A gentleman to the core, his vision became a turning point in our country's economic development," Ajit Pawar shared on X. He extended his condolences to Singh's family and friends.
Shiv Sena UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray shared his personal experience with Singh. Thackeray recalled a meeting at Singh's residence that left a lasting impression of humility and grace. "Probably one of those people in India, who have had a huge impact on our lives, and the country at large," Thackeray noted.
Legacy of Reform
NCP leader Praful Patel praised Singh's transformative economic policies. "His visionary economic policies reshaped the destiny of millions and set India on a path of growth and stability," Patel stated. He reflected on working with Singh and witnessing his dedication to the nation.
Senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat highlighted Singh's significant contributions to India's strength on the global stage. Thorat mentioned initiatives like Aadhaar, direct benefit transfer, and right to food legislation as courageous decisions by Singh.
Personal Tributes
Former Congress leader Ashok Chavan recalled financial support from Singh during his tenure as chief minister. Chavan appreciated the assistance for infrastructure development in Nanded for Guru Da Gaddi celebrations.
Aaditya Thackeray also reflected on growing up during India's economic liberalisation under Singh's leadership. He acknowledged how this era brought the world closer to India and expressed belief in the positive recognition of Singh's legacy.
