Maharashtra Introduces Welfare Corporation For Taxi, Rickshaw Drivers

A new welfare corporation by Maharashtra aims to support taxi and rickshaw drivers with insurance, medical aid, and educational grants.

The Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government is running several welfare schemes for the poor, labourers, and workers. Recently, CM Shinde met a group of rickshaw and taxi drivers in Mumbai. He announced a new corporation to help these drivers earn their livelihood in the city.

'Maharashtra Taxi Autorickshaw Owner Welfare Corporation' will be set up for the benefit of taxi drivers. Life insurance cover will be provided for rickshaw and taxi drivers under this new corporation. There will also be financial provisions for free medical treatment for the drivers and their families.

Welfare Boost for Maharashtra s Taxi Drivers

Emergency assistance of Rs 50,000 will be available in case of an accident. Scholarships and financial assistance will be provided to the children of these drivers for higher education. The Skill Development Department will provide technology training to their children.

Financial assistance will also be available through the Mukhyamantri Rojgar Yojana for those who want to start their own business. Drivers above 63 years of age will get an opportunity to receive graduate benefits. To avail this, they will have to deposit Rs 300 annually, which is Rs 25 per month.

The aim of this initiative is to improve the lives of rickshaw and taxi drivers in Mumbai by providing them with a variety of support and assistance. The establishment of Maharashtra Taxi Autorickshaw Owner Welfare Corporation is a significant step towards their welfare.
