The Maharashtra Assembly elections began at 7 am, with the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance aiming to retain power and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) seeking a comeback.

The elections cover all 288 constituencies, with results due on November 23.

As of 3 pm, voter turnout stands at 45.53% in Maharashtra and 61.47% in the second and final phase of polling in Jharkhand, according to the Election Commission of India.

High-profile figures, including PM Modi, Amit Shah, Rahul Gandhi, and Uddhav Thackeray, have campaigned across the state. Mahayuti focuses on women-centric schemes like Majhi Ladki Bahin, while the MVA criticizes the BJP for divisive politics. A total of 4,136 candidates, including 2,086 independents, are contesting, marking a 28% increase from the 2019 elections. Smaller parties like BSP and AIMIM are also participating.
