Maharashtra: IS operative planned several self-radicalised modules

The police say that he had planned on undertaking a sabotage operation in Maharashtra and other parts of the country.

The alleged Islamic State operative arrested recently had tried raising a module in Maharashtra, investigations have revealed. Recently the Maharashtra ATS had busted a module which was self-radicalised. It was found that this module had operatives from six states in India and its ring leader had been inspired by posts by the IS on the social media.

The operative Nazeem Shamshad Shah had moved to Mumbra in Maharashtra recently in search of a job. He had started recruiting there by radicalising them, the probe has revealed. He was impressed by the IS posts on the social media which prompted him to start a module of his own, ATS officials say. He would chat up on these topics with people from across the world, the officer also informed.

The police say that he had planned on undertaking a sabotage operation in Maharashtra and other parts of the country by raising a module inspired by the IS.

It was also revealed during the probe that he had been arrested in 2016 in Saudi Arabia in connection with a passport case. He was working as a plumber at Dammam for two years.
