ADB Approves 4,000 Crore Loan to Boost Maharashtras Healthcare System
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a 4,000 crore loan to Maharashtra for improving healthcare infrastructure and medical education. The first tranche of 1,200 crore has been approved, with plans to construct a 500-bed hospital in Dharashiv and implement various advancements in medical education and administration.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Monday that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of Rs 4,000 crore to enhance medical facilities in the state. The first tranche of Rs 1,200 crore has received in-principle approval, paving the way for significant improvements in healthcare infrastructure and medical education.

ADB Approves Loan for Advanced Healthcare Infrastructure
The ADB's loan will enable Maharashtra to create advanced healthcare infrastructure and medical education facilities. The project aims to establish centers of excellence, promote digital medical education and health policy, develop e-hospitals, encourage medical officers and staff, implement property management and sustainability policies, and establish recruitment centers for efficient medicine procurement.
Construction of New Hospitals
The ADB will provide Rs 1,200 crore for the construction of a 500-bed hospital in Dharashiv (formerly Osmanabad). Additionally, the tender process for similar infrastructure projects in Alibaug (Raigad district), Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg is underway.
Shinde's Vision for Healthcare
Speaking at the inauguration of a super specialty hospital in Ulhasnagar, Thane, Chief Minister Shinde emphasized his government's commitment to establishing a medical college and super specialty hospital in every district. He also praised the cashless hospitalization system in Thane and expressed his intention to replicate it across the state.
Shinde's Reference to Political Rebellion
In a symbolic reference to his rebellion in June 2022, which led to the downfall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government, Shinde remarked that he had performed the biggest surgery in the state as everything was in a bad state.
