Maharashtra Govt Fully Legal, MVA Conspiracy Defeated: Fadnavis On SC Ruling

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said he was satisfied by the Supreme Court's verdict refusing to reinstate the then Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Uddhav Thackeray in the state.

Addressing a press conference, Fadnavis said that the apex court's judgment held the Shiv Sena-BJP government legal and constitutional and exposed the MVA conspiracy.

"Today, Maha Vikas Aghadi's (MVA) conspiracy has been defeated. Now, no one should doubt that the Maharashtra government is completely legal," Fadnavis was quoted saying by ANI.

Soon after the SC verdict, Uddhav Thackeray said that Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy CM Fadnavis should resign on moral grounds like he did last year.

"Chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis should resign on moral grounds like I did," Thackeray told reporters.

Responding to Thackeray's demand for resignation, Fadnavis said he has no right to speak about morality as Sena won the assembly elections in alliance with BJP but then went with Congress.

"It doesn't suit Uddhav Thackeray to talk about morality. I want to ask him if had he forgotten his morals when he went with NCP and Congress for the CM post. He had not resigned on moral grounds but due to fear after those who were with him left him," Fadnavis said.

CM Shinde welcomed the judgment terming it as a victory of truth and said the Speaker will decide on the merit of the disqualification petition submitted by both camps.

"This is the victory of the vision of Babasaheb Thackeray, the thinking of the Shiv Sena and the feelings that the common people had for our government. It is the success of the mandate that the people had given in the elections. And according to Balasaheb Thackeray's thinking, those who tried to harass have been given a perfect response with the order given by the SC today," Shinde was quoted saying by ANI.
