Maharashtra Government Reinstates Rashmi Shukla as Director General of Police After Assembly Polls

The Maharashtra government has reinstated Rashmi Shukla as the Director General of Police (DGP) and head of the state's police force. This decision follows the conclusion of the assembly elections, according to an order from the state home department issued on Monday evening.

Rashmi Shukla Reinstated as DGP in Maharashtra

Senior IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Verma had temporarily assumed the role of DGP after Rashmi Shukla was removed from her position. This change occurred due to a directive from the Election Commission of India before the assembly elections. The removal was prompted by a request from Maharashtra Congress unit chief Nana Patole.

Election Process and Code of Conduct

Verma was appointed to hold the top position until the election process concluded. During this period, Shukla was placed on compulsory leave, as stated in a previous government order. With the election results announced on Sunday, the Election Commission declared the Model Code of Conduct concluded on Monday.

Following this, Rashmi Shukla's enforced leave was terminated, and she was instructed to resume her duties as DGP. Verma has been directed to transfer the responsibilities back to her. The official government order confirming this transition has been digitally signed and is available on Maharashtra's official website.

The decision marks a return to normalcy in the state's police leadership following the electoral process. The reinstatement ensures continuity in leadership for Maharashtra's police force as it moves forward post-elections.
