Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024: List Of Documents That Are Valid ID Proofs For Voting

Maharashtra is casting its votes today. As political outfits conclude their campaigns, citizens are preparing with their voter IDs in hand. However, what happens if you can't find your voter ID? There's no need to worry. A total of 12 alternative documents can be used in place of the voter ID at the polling station.

The list of accepted documents includes Aadhaar cards, driving licences, PAN cards, and even health insurance cards.

Here are the 12 documents that can be used to identify voters:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • MNREGA Job Card
  • Driving Licence
  • Health Insurance Smart Card (issued under the Ministry of Labour)
  • PAN Card
  • Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR
  • Indian Passport
  • Pension document with a photograph
  • Service Identity Cards with a photograph (issued to employees by the Centre, state government, or public sector units)
  • Official Identity Cards issued to MPs, MLAs, and MLCs
  • Passbooks with a photograph (issued by a Bank or Post Office)
  • Unique Disability ID (UDID) Card, issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment

The voting is taking place from 7 am to 6 pm across Maharashtra, with a single-phase election for all 288 constituencies. Over 9.7 crore voters will decide the fate of 4,136 candidates in the upcoming election, according to officials. The state will decide its future, with voters choosing whether the Eknath Shinde-led Mahayuti will continue its term or the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will return to power.

In the ruling Mahayuti alliance, the BJP is contesting 149 seats, Shiv Sena is fielding candidates in 81 constituencies, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP has put forward candidates in 59 constituencies. On the other hand, the opposition's MVA alliance has the Congress contesting 101 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) in 95 seats, and NCP (SP) in 86 constituencies. The results will be declared on Saturday, November 23.
