Mahakumbh: This Is A Place Of Faith, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria On Bathing In Ganges

The Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj has drawn a massive crowd, with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria highlighting the spiritual significance of bathing in the Ganges. He remarked on the unique nature of this land, where millions gather without invitation, emphasising that since humans settled here and the Ganges began flowing, bathing in it has been deemed sacred.

Massive Pilgrim Turnout

Official data shows that by 4 pm on Friday, over 1.78 million pilgrims and 1 million Kalpavasis had visited the Mahakumbh Mela. On the fifth day alone, more than 2.78 million people took a dip at Triveni Sangam. By January 16, over 70 million individuals had participated in this holy ritual.

To ensure safety during these events, authorities have implemented prohibitory orders until February 28. The Additional Commissioner of Police in Prayagraj announced these measures under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023. This decision aims to prevent any potential disruptions to law and order.

Upcoming Events and Security Measures

The announcement highlighted several upcoming festivals and events, including Mahakumbh 2025/Amrit Snan, Republic Day, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, and others. The ACP expressed concerns about possible disturbances from anti-social elements due to the district's communal sensitivity.

The Mahakumbh commenced on January 13 and will continue until February 26. Key dates for bathing include January 29 (Mauni Amavasya - Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami - Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri). These dates are significant for devotees participating in the event.

The measures taken by authorities aim to maintain peace during these religious gatherings. With millions attending such events, ensuring safety is paramount. The prohibitory orders reflect a proactive approach to managing potential challenges during this period of heightened activity.
