Mahakumbh 2025: Unable To Board Train, Angry Devotees Pelt Stones, Break Windows In Bihar's Madhubani
At Madhubani railway station in Bihar, chaos erupted when devotees heading to Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh were unable to board the Swatantrata Senani Express. The train's AC coaches were vandalised by frustrated passengers who couldn't get on due to overcrowding. Videos circulating online show agitated individuals throwing stones at the train, breaking windows, and forcing their way into compartments.
Eyewitnesses noted that the AC coaches were already packed with devotees, making it impossible for doors to open. As more people gathered at the station, some tried entering through windows while others resorted to stone-throwing and glass-breaking in frustration. The situation was chaotic as the crowd swelled beyond control.

Overcrowding and Vandalism
The train experienced similar disturbances between Madhubani and Darbhanga. Here, more devotees targeted AC coaches, damaging windows from M1 to B5 and A1 of train number 12561. The disorder continued at Samastipur station, where large crowds climbed into AC coaches through windows, turning them into makeshift general compartments.
The rush of thousands from Mithilanchal region heading to Prayagraj for Magh Purnima led to severe overcrowding. This resulted in a breakdown of order at various stations along the route. Railway police struggled to manage the situation amidst the chaos caused by the massive influx of passengers.
Medical Teams Struggle
Medical teams dispatched to treat injured passengers faced difficulties navigating through the dense crowd and had to return without providing aid. Despite these challenges, the train eventually departed from Samastipur nearly an hour behind schedule.
