Mahadayi Row: Jagadish Shettar slams K'taka govt’s demand seeking Modi’s intervention
Bengaluru, July 28: Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar has blamed the Siddaramaiah led-Congress government for the Mahadayi river verdict.
"There were flaws in the interim petition filed by the state before Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal," alleged the former CM in a brief telephonic conversation with OneIndia.

"The Congress is hell bent on seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention into the matter but how can a prime minister interfere in a matter that was heard by the Tribunal," he says. He also blamed the Karnataka government for not convincing the Congress party in Goa to arrange a meeting between CM Siddaramaiah and Goa CM Laxmikant Parsekar.
"If now Congress is demanding Modi's intervention to resolve the problem in favour of Karnataka, why didn't Manmohan Singh solve the problem, facilitating the diversion of 7.56 TMC of water from Mahadayi basin," Shettar questioned.
He alleged that the interim petition filed by the state government had flaws and this resulted in the failure. Shettar also said that the argument made before the Tribunal by the counsel for the state was feeble.
Shettar held the government responsible for the bandh and disruption in the State that was followed by the verdict and said: "Government has to instill confidence among people. It needs to inform the public about the next course of action in order to avoid untoward incidents."
Shettar added that since the issue has been dealt legally, the state has to mull on future legal course and not demand for Modi's intervention. "For Congress it has become a habit to drag Modi in all issues. By doing so they want to give a political colour to the problem and seek mileage from the same."
BJP will stress on the government to opt for a legal course to resolve the problem.
