Maha polls: Man arrested with 10 lakh cash ahead of Rahul's rally

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi
Mumbai, Oct 13: The Maharashtra Police have seized Rs 10 lakh that was reportedly meant for Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's rally at Ramtek on Saturday.

The cash was seized from a car in Sangamner area of Nagpur, said the police.

According to a India Today report, when the car driver did not stop at the police checkpost, it was chased down by the patrolling vehicles of the police.

The police searched the car and detained the driver. The driver, who is identified as Mohammad Aleem, said that the cash was meant for labourers making arrangements at the rally ground in Ramtek.

As per the Election Commission guidelines, payment to contractors for campaign rallies have to be done by cheque.

The report said, "With no documentations and prior approval, the seizure of cash would result in filing of an FIR."

Though, the police have not taken any action in the case, but it will remain to be seen if Rahul or the Congress candidate from Nagpur are held accountable in the case.
