Maha Kumbh Mela: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Takes Dip In Sangam, Reviews Safety Measures

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Prayagraj on Saturday to take part in the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.

His visit began with a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Triveni Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

During his time at the event, Rajnath Singh will also perform religious rituals at significant locations, including Akshaya Vat, Patalpuri Temple, Saraswati Kund, and the Hanuman Temple.

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, 2025, is expected to attract millions of devotees and will continue until February 26, 2025.

In parallel, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to inspect the arrangements and safety measures in place to manage the large influx of pilgrims.

Saturday marks the sixth day of the Maha Kumbh, with a substantial crowd expected for the Amrit Snan, one of the most important bathing rituals of the event, where devotees bathe in the Sangam to spiritually cleanse themselves.

The first Amrit Snan took place on January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti, and the second will be held on January 29 for Mauni Amavasya, with the third scheduled for February 3 for Basant Panchami.

To ensure safety during the sacred baths, a team of 220 expert divers from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed, operating in shifts and supported by 700 boats for constant vigilance. In addition, security personnel from the NDRF, SDRF, PAC, water police, and healthcare teams are collaborating to ensure the smooth running of the event.

To accommodate the growing number of visitors, the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) has improved lodging options, including the establishment of a deluxe 300-bed dormitory within the Maha Kumbh area to provide premium accommodation for both pilgrims and tourists.
