How the encounter that claimed the life of Atiq Ahmed's son unfolded

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has termed the killing of Asad Ahmed, son of mafioso-turned politician Atiq Ahmed a huge success. For the UP police and UP STF, the Umesh Pal murder case is an important and challenging one.

Amitabh Yash, ADG, Uttar Pradesh STF termed the encounter as a huge success.

"It was an important case for UP Police and UP STF because a key witness in a case (BSP MLA Raju Pal's murder), along with two police security guards with automatic weapons were killed," ADG Yash said.

While referring to the murder of Umesh Pal, he said that it was an attack on the criminal justice system.

Umesh Pal was a key witness in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf are the prime accused in the murder. In this case, Atiq has already been convicted and sentenced to life.

Earlier today, Asad and his accomplice were both killed in an encounter with the UP police.

Asad and his aide, Ghulam were travelling across multiple states following the Umesh Pal murder, the police said. The police acting on a tip-off located them in Jhansi, where they retaliated by firing on the officers, Anant Dev Tiwari, the deputy inspector general of UP STF said.

Asad and Ghulam had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on their head.

Asad is the son of gangsgter-turned politician Atiq Ahmed. On April 9, the Delhi police had arrested three persons in connection with aiding Asad who was instrumental in orchestrating the Pal murder. The three accused persons were accused of harbouring Assad following the Pal murder.

The name of Ali Ahmed, the other son of Atiq Ahmed had also surfaced ni the same case. There are nearly 160 criminal cases that have been lodged against the Ahmed family. Atiq himself has been named in nearly 100 cases, while his brother Ashraf has 52 cases against him. Atif's wife Shaista Praveen has three and sons Ali and Ali and Asad have four and one cases against them respectively.
