Madhya Pradesh Schools to Teach Ahilyabai Holkar's Historical Contributions

In a significant move to honour the legacy of Holkar ruler Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced plans to integrate events from her life into the educational curriculum. This announcement was made during the Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar Tricentenary Celebrations in Indore. The state aims to publish books based on historical documents that highlight various episodes from Devi Ahilyabai Holkar's life, making them accessible to students in schools and colleges.

Chief Minister Yadav, supporting a suggestion by former Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, stated the importance of bringing Devi Ahilyabai Holkar's contributions closer to the common people through education. However, he mentioned that a formal announcement could not be made due to the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha polls currently in effect.

Devi Ahilyabai Holkar is celebrated for her developmental work, including contributions to the char dhams and 12 jyotirlingas across India, which Chief Minister Yadav highlighted as leaving an "indelible mark of good governance". Sumitra Mahajan also emphasized the need for historical documents from the Holkar dynasty era, written in Modi script, to be digitally preserved and translated into various languages.

Further enriching the tribute to Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, classical dancer and Rajya Sabha member Dr. Sonal Mansingh proposed renaming a significant site, park, meeting place, or road in New Delhi after her. She advocated for replacing names associated with figures like Babar, Akbar, and Shah Jahan with those of great Indian women such as Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. This suggestion underscores a broader call for recognizing and celebrating female figures in India's history.

Nivedita Bhide of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, also contributed to the programme, marking a collective effort to honor Devi Ahilyabai Holkar's legacy. The initiative by the Madhya Pradesh government not only aims to educate but also to inspire future generations with the rich history and heritage of India's formidable women leaders.
