Sagar Tragedy: Collector, SP Among Officials Transferred After Wall Collapse Kills Nine Children

Following the tragic death of nine children due to a wall collapse in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has taken decisive action. On Sunday night, he ordered the removal of the district collector, superintendent of police, and sub-divisional magistrate, according to an official statement.

Sagar Officials Transferred After Tragedy

The transfer orders were issued late at night. As per the directive, Sagar collector Deepak Arya has been reassigned to the state secretariat in Bhopal as deputy secretary. Sandeep GR, a 2013 batch officer currently serving as Chhattarpur collector, will replace Arya as the new collector of Sagar.

Changes in Administrative Positions

Parth Jaiswal, from the 2015 batch and presently CEO of Chhindwara district panchayat, will take over as Chhattarpur collector from Sandeep GR. The chief minister also mandated the transfer of the Sagar sub-divisional magistrate. Earlier, Yadav had mistakenly referred to the Sagar SDM as Rahli SDM in a tweet.

Additionally, Sagar SP Abhishek Tiwari, an IPS officer from the 2013 batch, has been transferred. He will now serve as Assistant Inspector General (AIG) at police headquarters in Bhopal. Vikas Kumar Sahwal, an IPS officer from the 2014 batch and currently Raisen SP, will assume the role of Sagar SP.

Immediate Suspensions Ordered

The chief minister also ordered the immediate suspension of Dr Hariom Bansal. Dr Bansal was posted at Shahpur primary health center and faced charges of negligence. This swift action underscores the government's commitment to accountability and safety.

The administrative reshuffle aims to address lapses that may have contributed to the incident and ensure better governance in the affected areas. The government’s response highlights its focus on rectifying administrative failures promptly.

The changes in key positions are expected to bring about improvements in local administration and prevent such tragedies in the future. The swift transfers and suspensions reflect a zero-tolerance approach towards negligence and inefficiency.

This incident has prompted a significant reorganisation within the district's administrative framework. The government is keen on ensuring that such incidents do not recur by holding officials accountable for their duties.

These measures are part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and improve administrative efficiency across Madhya Pradesh. The focus remains on preventing similar incidents through stringent oversight and proactive governance.
