In the video posted on the platform X, formerly Twitter, villagers can be seen harassing and mishandling the leopard by sitting on its back and taking selfies with the leopard.

A huge number of villagers gathered to see the leopard after they spotted the animal on the banks of the Kali Sindh River on Tuesday afternoon.

Although the villagers were scared to see it initially, gradually, they started taking selfies with it. But the situation worsened when the villagers started mishandling the animal by sitting and taking a ride on its back.

Reportedly, officials from the Forest Department officials arrived at the spot with a rescue team from Ujjain. The team managed to rescue the leopard.

According to Sub Divisional Officer Santosh Shukla, there were no signs of injury on the leopard's body but the animal might be ill or might have overeaten.

"The condition of the leopard was critical. Despite this, people were troubling him. The veterinary doctor was called from Mhow in Indore," Shukla was quoted as saying.

According to the officials, the leopard who was kept under the supervision of a veterinary doctor at the Daulatpur Rest House overnight, was taken to the Indore Zoo for treatment. It will be released back into the forest after it recovers.
