Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Lal Yadav Announces To Ban Liquor At 17 Religious Sites

In a significant move to safeguard the sanctity of religious sites in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced a prohibition on liquor sales at 17 key places of worship. This decision, revealed during an event in Narsinghpur district, aims to address concerns voiced by devotees and uphold the sacred atmosphere of these sites. The Chief Minister emphasized the detrimental effects of alcohol consumption, particularly on the youth, who represent the nation's future. This initiative aligns with efforts to maintain the spiritual integrity of these locations.

The ban on alcohol sales will encompass areas revered by followers of Lord Krishna and Lord Ram, reflecting the state's commitment to transforming these sites into pilgrimage destinations. This policy extends the government's ongoing efforts to enhance the state's cultural and spiritual landscape. Last year, CM Yadav pledged to develop areas associated with these deities, underscoring the initiative's broader objective to promote religious tourism and preserve the state's heritage.

Community and Political Support for the Ban

The proposal has garnered support from various quarters, including senior BJP leader Uma Bharti, who has long advocated for a statewide liquor prohibition. Bharti, celebrating the government's decision, views it as a step towards total prohibition in Madhya Pradesh, having recently staged a two-day protest at a Bhopal temple to demand stricter excise policies.

Infrastructure Development in Bhopal

Parallel to these cultural preservation efforts, the state is also focusing on infrastructure development. CM Mohan Yadav inaugurated a new flyover in Bhopal, constructed at a cost of Rs 154 crores. Named after the revered Former Law and Justice Minister Bhimrao Ambedkar, the flyover stretches 2,900 meters and is designed to facilitate smoother traffic flow across several key city junctions. This infrastructure project is expected to significantly ease commutes to and from the city, enhancing connectivity with regions like Obedullaganj, Narmadapuram, Betul, Khandwa, and Jabalpur.
