Lucknow School Holiday On August 14: Will Schools and Colleges Remain Open On Thursday?

All schools in Lucknow will close on August 14 due to heavy rainfall and adverse weather. The decision prioritises student safety amid ongoing weather alerts.

All schools, both government and private, in Lucknow will be closed on Thursday, August 14. The local administration has taken the decision in view of bad weather.

"In view of bad weather and rain conditions in parts of the state, all government and non-government schools from classes 1 to 12 will remain closed in Lucknow today," ANI quoted Lucknow DM Visakh G Iyer in a tweet.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate to intense rainfall for several regions early Thursday. These areas include Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Madhya Pradesh, and west Uttar Pradesh. Light to moderate rain is expected in most places with heavier showers at isolated spots over Delhi and the NCR.

Weather Alerts Across Regions

A red alert has been issued for certain parts of Telangana such as Vikarabad and Sangareddy due to anticipated extremely heavy rain. Meanwhile, an orange alert is in effect for regions like Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam.

The IMD highlighted that monsoon activity in Uttar Pradesh is expected to intensify over the next two days. This is attributed to a low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal. "The system has caused the eastern end of the monsoon trough to shift southwards," stated the IMD. This shift is likely to bring widespread light to moderate rain across most parts of the state with some areas experiencing heavy downpours.

The decision to close schools was taken after considering student safety amid waterlogging and disrupted transport services in Lucknow. As weather conditions continue to evolve across various regions in India, authorities are taking necessary precautions. The focus remains on ensuring public safety while managing disruptions caused by adverse weather patterns.

According to a report in News18, the educational institutions will remain closed today in many parts of Uttar Pradesh over Chelum which a Muslim (specifically Shia) religious observance that marks the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.

On Saturday, the schools and colleges remain closed over Krishna Janmasthami.
