Lucknow poll booth: Cut the election heat with momo, cold drinks

, April 2: This Lok Sabha election cannot be called a conventional one at any point of time. From the star cast in political parties to trending delicacies dedicated to the leaders in the forefront, this election has more surprises to throw up than expected.

For instance, some of the poll booths in Lucknow may been given a VIP status...meaning? Voters can now cool themselves down in the summer heat with momos, cold drinks, chilled water and wafers. Other snacks may also be available.

Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said that these booths will be manned by cadets from the National Social Service (NSS) and the National Cadet Cops (NCC) who will take care of the convenience of the voters.

Voting these camps would be organised too. The volunteers would usher the voters in and will direct the voters to a shady spot after they collect their voting slips. The names would then be announced and the voters would be informed of their turn. A token system would also be in place.

This arrangement has been made so that not more than 15-20 people would be in the queue to vote.

The cadets would be imparted training in line management this week and would be taught to deal with varied kind of voters. They are likely to be given new set of uniforms, which the poll panel says would be "hep and corporate in looks".

The move has been made to make voting a pleasant experience and to attract as many voters as possible. The Lucknow municipal corporation has been asked to take care of the availability of cold drinks and the snacks.

Facilities like wheel chairs and spiral ramps will also be provided for the physically challenged and the handicapped. Vehicles in such cases would also be allowed to drive close to the polling booths.

Although the finalization of the plan is still being worked out, the booths to be elevated to the VIP status will be in areas like Hazratganj, Mall Avenue, Mahanagar, Jopling road, Nishatganj, Narahi, Gomtinagar and Aliganj.
