'Loopholes' in Chhattisgarh nun-rape probe: NHRC
New Delhi, Aug 20: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today pointed out "deficiencies" into the probe of a nun's alleged rape in Chhattisgarh in June and sought action taken report from top authorities of the state government on its recommendations within six weeks.
The Commission has given specific set of recommendations to the state Chief Secretary, DGP and Raipur SP, following an enquiry, which found "several loop holes" in the handling of the case.

It observed that the local police had registered an FIR but failed to get the statement of the victim recorded before the judicial magistrate and said that proper penal sections based on the allegations of the complainant were not invoked while registering the case.
"Further, the local police, in absence of a protocol or a procedure, did not take any measures to secure the scene of crime nor it took blood, urine or other body fluid samples to find out the nature and composition of pills alleged to have been popped up in the mouth of the victim by her assailants," the Commission said.
It also found that no relief and rehabilitation measures were taken for the victim by the State government. The 48-year-old nun was allegedly gang-raped by two masked men at a medicare centre in Raipur's Pandari area on June 20.
In her complaint to the police, the victim had said she was sexually assaulted by two masked men in the wee hours of June 20 after binding and gagging her while she was asleep at the nursing centre.
