Lok Sabha MPs hailed as saviours after overpowering gas canister attackers

In a shocking incident that occurred on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, the Lok Sabha witnessed a major security breach when two individuals breached the House chamber and released yellow gas from canisters. Sequence of events

During the Zero Hour session, when several MPs were present in the House, two individuals suddenly jumped down from the public gallery and attempted to approach the Speaker's Chair by leaping over the benches. Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) MP Beniwal, who played a crucial role in apprehending one of the intruders, described the incident to reporters.

Gas release and security concerns

Beniwal revealed that the intruders had concealed bomb-like objects inside their shoes and released a gas that caused fear among the MPs. He emphasized the seriousness of the security lapse and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.

Witness accounts

Congress MP Aujla from Amritsar shared his experience of the incident. He had just finished raising an issue when the two individuals jumped into the House chamber. Aujla described how one of the intruders was moving towards the Chair when Beniwal caught him. He also mentioned that the second person was waving a canister releasing gas, which they managed to snatch away and discard for the safety of the members.

BSP MP Nagar provided additional details about the incident. He recalled hearing a loud sound from behind, indicating someone falling down. He then witnessed one person jumping into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery while another was seen hanging. Nagar explained how Beniwal swiftly apprehended one of the intruders, while he and other MPs caught the other person.

Identification of intruders

The two protesters have been identified as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D. Sharma. They had gained access to the visitors' gallery as guests of Mysuru Lok Sabha member Prathap Simha. The incident occurred around 1 pm when the two individuals jumped into the chamber from the public gallery.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the security measures in place at the Parliament. The brave actions of MPs Beniwal, Nagar, and Aujla prevented any potential harm to the members present during the session.
