Live Mathura Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: With RLD's Support Hema Malini To Register Comfortable Win

The holy city of Mathura, where Lord Krishna was born, is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, with 1,807,893 registered voters, according to the Election Commission of India's 2019 data. Veteran actor and MP Hema Malini has been winning the seat from last 3 terms for BJP, against then rival and now alliance partner Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).

In 2014, she defeated Jayant Chaudhary, a popular Jat leader and grandson of Chaudhary Charan Singh. In 2009, Jayant Chaudhary secured over 50% of the votes, but this dropped to less than 23% in 2014.

The constituency includes five assembly segments: Chhata, Mant, Goverdhan, Mathura, and Baldev (SC).

According to the 2011 Census, Mathura district had a population of 2,547,184, with 1,367,125 males and 1,180,059 females, giving an average sex ratio of 863 females per 1000 males.

The literacy rate in the district was 70.36%.

Mathura is primarily rural, with 70.3% of the population living in villages. Scheduled Castes made up 19.9% of the population, while Scheduled Tribes were just 0.1%. Hindus comprised 90.72% of the population, Muslims 8.52%, and other religions made up the rest.

The city is also famous for rich cultural and historical significance, which makes it a notable constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
