Liquor Policy Case: Big Update In BRS MLC K Kavitha's Bail Matter

Bharat Rashtriya Samiti (BRS) MLC K Kavitha's bail plea hearing in the money laundering case related to now scrapped Delhi Liquor Policy has been adjourned for August 20. According to the reports, the Supreme Court sought responses from investigating agencies, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED), on BRS leader K Kavitha's role and what proof they have gathered against her. The BRS leader has requested for a regular bail in the alleged corruption case challenging the Delhi High Court's order.

The Supreme Court bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan now wants to know why investigating agencies are opposing Kavitha's bail plea.

Earlier on July 1, the Delhi High Court dismissed BRS leader's bail request stating that investigating agencies have named her as prima facie one of the main conspirators in the high-profile case. She has been accused of criminal conspiracy formation and implementation along with other big leaders of Delhi including the chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and deputy CM Manish Sisodia.

A team of ED arrested K Kavitha from her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad on March 15 and later on April 11, she was handed over to the CBI for investigation in connection with the corruption case.

Meanwhile, a couple of days ago, the Supreme Court granted bail to Manish Sisodia in connection with a similar case highlighting the fact that he was behind bars for more than 17 months and no trial was conducted.

The Supreme Court also said that getting bail is a right of every citizen and lower courts hesitated to give bail to Manish Sisodia as a lot of political pressure is involved.

Notably, the investigating agencies have not found any money trail or recovered any cash from any AAP leader's house so far.
