"Let's make Rahul Gandhi PM in 2019," Siddaramaiah gives call
The Karnataka Chief Minister attacked BJP National President Amit Shah
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday gave a call to make AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi the next Prime Minister of India. Speaking in Bengaluru after the inauguration of Indira canteen, Siddaramaiah said that the work towards making Gandhi the next PM should begin from Karnataka.
"Let us make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister in 2019. Let us begin working towards it from our Karnataka and let us start now," said Siddaramaiah. The statement comes at a time when political analysts, as well as leaders of parties, like the JD(U), have declared that there is no competition to the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In asking for work to begin from Karnataka, the Chief Minister was appealing for his party's victory in the upcoming assembly elections.

Hitting back at BJP National President Amit Shah, Siddaramaiah said that he was not answerable to Shah. Shah during his visit to Bengaluru had asked what the Karnataka government had done with all the money that had been released by the centre. "Who is Amit Shah to ask question me? I am not answerable to Amit Shah on what the state has done with money allocated from the Centre. I am only answerable to the people," Siddaramaiah said.
His push for Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister came after the AICC vice president launched attacks on the BJP as well as Prime minister Narendra Modi over the Gorakhpur hospital deaths, India-China standoff and unemployment crisis in the country. Siddaramaiah will accompany Rahul Gandhi to New Delhi on Wednesday and meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi ahead of making key decisions for the upcoming assembly elections.
