BJP to Finalise Legislature Party Leader After Discussions with Newly-Elected MLAs in Maharashtra

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, one of the BJP's observers for the Maharashtra legislature party meeting, stated that the leader of the legislature party will be chosen after discussions with the newly-elected MLAs. Rupani arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday evening for this crucial meeting scheduled for Wednesday. He mentioned that if there is consensus, only one name will be proposed.

BJP to Choose Legislature Party Leader Soon

The BJP achieved significant success in the November 20 Maharashtra elections, winning 132 out of 288 seats, marking its best performance in the state to date. Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is considered a leading candidate for the top position in the new BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP government. Speaking to reporters, Rupani confirmed that the government formation process is underway and discussions with elected MLAs will occur soon.

Finalising Leadership

Rupani explained that the process of selecting the BJP legislative party leader follows a traditional method within the party. He stated, "The government will be formed. Discussions with the elected MLAs will take place tomorrow. One name will be finalised and it will be announced later." The chosen leader will then take oath as Maharashtra's Chief Minister the following day.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, also serving as an observer, will join Rupani in these discussions. The two leaders are set to meet BJP's elected representatives in the Central Hall of Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan to finalise the leader's name. If there is agreement among members, only one proposal will be put forward.

Oath Ceremony Preparations

The party has announced that the new Chief Minister will take oath on December 5 at a grand event at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai. This event will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union ministers, party leaders, and chief ministers from states governed by the party. Special arrangements have been made to accommodate 40,000 BJP supporters and provide separate seating for 2,000 VVIPs, including leaders from various religions.

This structured approach ensures a smooth transition and reflects BJP's commitment to maintaining order within its ranks. The upcoming oath ceremony signifies a significant moment for the party in Maharashtra, highlighting its electoral achievements and future governance plans.
