Nation Mourns CPI(M)s Yechury

Yechury, the general secretary of the CPIM and a former Rajya Sabha MP, succumbed to a lung infection. He had been in critical condition for several days and was on respiratory support while being treated for an acute respiratory tract infection at AIIMS. He was admitted to the hospital on August 19.

Political Leaders Mourn

In a statement, Adityanath said, "The passing of Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the CPIM and former Rajya Sabha MP, is deeply saddening. I pray to Lord Ram that the departed soul may attain salvation and grant the bereaved family the strength to bear this immense grief."

Samajwadi Party chief Yadav also shared his sorrow on X, stating, "Senior politician and CPIM general secretary Shri Sitaram Yechury passed away, very sad! May God rest his soul in peace. May the grieving family get strength to bear this immense sorrow. Heartfelt tribute!"

Condolences from Various Parties

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief also expressed her condolences in a post on X. She wrote in Hindi, "The news of the death of CPIM general secretary and former Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sitaram Yechury, a well-known name in the country's politics, during treatment is extremely sad. He was a skilled MP and a sociable person. My deepest condolences to his family and all his loved ones. May God give them all the strength to bear this sorrow."

The CPIM announced that Yechury's body would be kept at the party headquarters in Delhi from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday for public viewing and homage. Following this, his body will be taken to AIIMS for donation to medical research as per his wishes.

A pragmatic Communist and one of the key architects of coalition politics since the mid-90s, Yechury's death marks a significant loss for Indian politics. The CPIM and Samajwadi Party are both part of the INDIA bloc.

Yechury's contributions to coalition politics have been notable since the mid-90s. His pragmatic approach helped shape many political alliances over the years.

His passing has left a void in Indian politics, with leaders across parties acknowledging his impact and offering their tributes.

Yechury's body will be donated to AIIMS for medical research, honouring his wishes. This gesture reflects his lifelong commitment to public service and education.
