Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu States Leader of Opposition Status Must Be Earned Through Votes

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu recently made a sarcastic remark about YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Naidu criticised Reddy for demanding the status of leader of the opposition in the assembly. He emphasised that such status is determined by voters, not leaders. This comment came amid the YSRCP's boycott of the ongoing assembly session.

Leader of Opposition Status Must Be Earned

Naidu explained that a party must win at least 10% of the seats to gain opposition status. He stated, "When we have a majority, we will form the government." Naidu made these remarks while congratulating Undi TDP MLA K Raghurama Krishna Raju on his election as deputy speaker. He stressed that democracy requires respecting its principles and not dictating terms.

Political Tensions and Personal Insults

IT Minister Nara Lokesh accused YSRCP leaders of insulting his mother, N Bhuvaneswari, during their tenure from 2019 to 2024. Lokesh noted that neither he nor any TDP members retaliated similarly. "We never spoke about Jagan Mohan Reddy's family," he said, questioning YSRCP MLCs if he should remain silent when his mother was insulted in the assembly.

Lokesh revealed that after his mother was insulted, Chandrababu Naidu stopped attending assembly sessions in 2022. Before this incident, Naidu had been actively participating in House proceedings. Lokesh described Naidu as fighting alone like a lion and unable to bear the insult to his mother, leading to his boycott of the assembly.

Investment Plans and Economic Goals

The Chief Minister also highlighted plans to transform Andhra Pradesh into a global investment hub. The NDA government, comprising TDP, BJP, and Janasena, aims to attract significant investments. A senior official will oversee investments exceeding Rs 1,000 crore. The state targets Rs 30 lakh crore in investments and aims to attract Fortune 500 companies.

Naidu underscored the importance of youth empowerment through job creation. The government plans to establish 22 lakh MSMEs and has set aside Rs 500 crore for innovation hubs. The goal is to create 20 lakh jobs over the next five years. The state's food processing sector has potential due to Rayalaseema's horticulture and coastal regions' aquaculture.

Naidu compared Reddy's behaviour to that of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, citing similarities in their personalities and thinking patterns. He assured strict action against those involved in marijuana cultivation or sale in the state.

Lokesh expressed concern over opposition MLAs skipping House proceedings despite having a strength of 10 members besides Reddy. He pointed out that YSRCP leaders who insulted his mother were rewarded with election tickets in 2024 but ultimately lost.

The Chief Minister reiterated that young people are an asset and empowering them with jobs will enable wealth creation. The government's efforts aim at setting up numerous MSMEs and fostering innovation through substantial funding for hubs.
