Lawyer Held for Allegedly Inciting Woman's Self-Immolation Bid in Lucknow

A 30-year-old woman suffered severe burns after attempting self-immolation near Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence. She claimed her husband and in-laws tortured her. Police arrested her lawyer, Sunil Kumar, for allegedly inciting the act. The woman's husband and his brother were already in custody.

Anjali Jatav, a mother from Unnao district, accused her husband and in-laws of both physical and mental abuse. She tried to set herself on fire using a flammable liquid near Vikramaditya Marg. Police quickly intervened, extinguishing the flames and taking her to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital. Doctors confirmed she had 90% burns.

Legal Actions Taken

Deputy Commissioner of Police Lucknow Central Raveena Tyagi stated that an FIR was lodged against Sunil Kumar at the Gautam Palli police station. Authorities allege Kumar's actions aimed to tarnish the image of the police and government. The Unnao district authorities confirmed that they had initiated action leading to the arrest of Jatav's husband and his brother.

Jatav's condition remains critical as she receives treatment for her extensive injuries. The police continue their investigation into the incident, focusing on the allegations against both her family and her lawyer.
