Lalu Prasad Yadav's 'Poora Muslim Quota' Remark Sparks Controversy; PM Narendra Modi Reacts

The remark made by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, advocating 'poora' (complete) reservation for Muslims, ignited a significant political controversy on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted strongly to this statement, which shed light on the perceived intentions within the INDIA bloc led by Lalu Yadav, as reported by ANI.

During a rally in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to Lalu Prasad Yadav's comment, expressing concern over what he interpreted as an attempt to reallocate reservation benefits from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) to the Muslim community, as reported by Hindustan Times.

PM Modi Reacts To Lalu s Statement

PM Modi also highlighted Lalu Yadav's legal situation in connection with the fodder scam and raised suspicions regarding the Congress and its allies' motives.

BJP's Assessment and Conclusions

A BJP spokesperson, Sudhanshu Trivedi, supported PM Modi's assertions, indicating that Lalu Yadav's statement validated their concerns. Trivedi emphasized that the intent appeared to involve reallocating reservation quotas, which could potentially disadvantage SCs, STs, and OBCs in favour of the Muslim community, as per the Hindustan Times report.

Reiteration of Modi's Stance

PM Modi reiterated his resolve to safeguard India's identity against what he termed as "pseudo-secularism," pledging to thwart any attempts to undermine the existing reservation framework. He emphasized that such efforts would not succeed under his watch.

Lalu Prasad Yadav's Position

In his statement to ANI, Lalu Prasad Yadav reiterated his stance, affirming that Muslims should receive 'poora reservation.' This declaration came shortly after BJP leader Amit Shah alleges the Congress regarding the redistribution of reservation quotas in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, as reported by ANI.

The overall discourse reflects a tense political climate surrounding the issue of reservation and perceived intentions within India's political landscape. The exchange underscores the sensitivity and complexity of reservation policies, with implications for various social groups and communities across the country.

Lalu Prasad Yadav Refutes Modi's Claims on Reservation

Former Bihar chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's allegations by asserting that the INDIA bloc's intention was not to transfer reservation from backward communities to Muslims. He emphasized that reservation in jobs and education is granted based on social backwardness and not on religion.

Yadav further highlighted that he was responsible for implementing the recommendations of the Mandal Commission, also known as the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Commission (SEBC), which identifies such classes and recommends measures for their advancement.

During an interview with ANI, Yadav clarified, "I implemented the 'Mandal Commission'. Reservation is based on social backwardness and not on religion." He also mentioned that Atal Bihari Vajpayee had constituted the Constitution Review Commission.
