Lalu calls Jethmalani a ‘rich man’, after the latter addresses Kejriwal a ‘poor client’

After Ram Jethmalani called Arvind Kejriwal a poor client, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav addressed the lawyer as a rich man.

Patna, April 4: On Tuesday, India learnt a few lessons in prosperity and poverty, as politician and lawyer called each other poor and rich. Earlier in the day, noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani offered to defend Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for free in the court if the latter is not able to pay his fees.

"Even if (Delhi) government doesn't pay or he can't pay, I will appear for free, will treat him (Kejriwal) as one of my poor clients," Jethmalani, who has raised a bill of Rs 3.42 crore for his services to Kejriwal, was quoted as saying by ANI.

"Everybody knows this in this country that I charge only the rich, but for the poor, I do work free and they are about 90 percent of my clients," he said.

Afterwards, Rashtriya Janata Dal founder, Lalu Prasad Yadav, called the veteran lawyer a rich man as he has decided to defend his 'poor' client free of cost.

"It's fine. He (Jethmalani) has no dearth of money. In all my cases, he did not charge us a single penny (Theek hai unko paisa ki kya kami hai chacha ko,hamara jitna case hai hum logon se toh ek paisa nahi liya)," Yadav told ANI. In fact, Jethmalani was Yadav's lawyer in the multi-crore fodder scam.

The entire 'rich and poor' conversation started after Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia approved Jethmalani's bill from the government exchequer and sent them for clearance to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. Baijal then sought the opinion of experts on how to proceed in the matter.

The Kejriwal government is facing flak as it wants to use tax payers' money to clear bills pertaining to his personal case. Jethmalani is Kejriwal's counsel in the defamation case filed against him by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
