Lakshmivara Thirtha was a drunkard, womaniser: Pejawar seer

Udupi, July 20: Pejawar Mutt seer Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji has levelled sensational charges against Lakshmivara Thirtha Swamiji of Shiroor mutt whose death has raised questions among his followers.

Pejawar Mutt seer today told media persons, "Shiroor Mutt's late seer Lakshmivara Thirtha was into drinking and womanising. That is the reason he did not do justice to his monkhood."

Also, Udupi mutt seer said that his statements are not properly reported in the media. He said, "Shiroor Swamiji had many good qualities. He mingled with non-Brahmins. He was a good artist and generous. He helped students. But, he betrayed Sanyasi dharma due to his habits. I had told him to shun bad habits."

Pejawar mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Teertha denied foul play in Shiroor mutt seer Lakshmivara Tirtha Swami's death. Also, he did not attend the final rites of Lakshmivara Thirtha due to a pre-scheduled event in Sirsi.

The Udupi mutt seer has denied question of anybody poisoning Lakshmivara Tirtha's food.

Lakshmivara Tirtha Swami (55) passed away in Kasturba hospital on Thursday. The seer was brought to Kasturba hospital at 1.05 AM from a private hospital in Udupi. He was declared dead at 8.05 AM yesterday.

In absence of junior pontiff in Shiroor mutt, Sode mutt seer was in charge of last rites of the Shiroor seer. Sode mutt seer to be in-charge of Shirur mutt affairs till a new successor is appointed to Shiroor mutt. The successor to be named after Ashada month.
