Maharashtra BJP President Addresses Concerns Over Kunbi Caste Certificates
Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule clarified that the draft notification on granting Kunbi caste certificates to Marathas is not final. OBC leaders can submit objections to ensure fairness in the reservation process.
Sangli, January 30: Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Chandrashekhar Bawankule addressed concerns regarding the draft notification on granting Kunbi caste certificates to Marathas. He emphasized that the notification is not final and invited objections from Other Backward Class (OBC) leaders.

Draft Notification Sparks Apprehensions
The draft notification, released by the government in response to activist Manoj Jaranges' agitation, has raised apprehensions among OBC leaders, including state minister Chhagan Bhujbal. They fear that it may pave the way for Marathas to gain backdoor entry into the OBC category.
Seeking Suggestions and Objections
Bawankule clarified that the state government is seeking suggestions and objections on the draft notification. He assured that if OBC leaders or others perceive any potential injustice, they can convey their concerns. The final decision will be made after considering all objections and suggestions.
Positive Approach to Maratha Reservation
Bawankule expressed the state government's positive stance on granting reservation to the Maratha community. He commended the steps taken by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and deemed them appropriate.
Dual Reservation Options
Bawankule outlined two options for providing reservation to the Maratha community. Those who possess the Kunbi certificate will be eligible for reservation under the OBC category. Simultaneously, the state government is working on separate reservation for Marathas who do not hold the Kunbi certificate.
Recognition of Blood Relatives
According to the draft notification, if a Maratha individual presents proof of belonging to the Kunbi caste, their blood relatives will also be recognized as Kunbi.
Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule's clarification on the Kunbi caste certificate draft notification aims to address concerns and ensure a fair process. By inviting objections and suggestions, the state government demonstrates its commitment to considering all perspectives before making a final decision on the matter.
