Kunal Kamra Drops Another Satirical Video – This Time Aiming At Sitharaman

After receiving a second summons from Mumbai Police over his remarks on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, comedian Kunal Kamra has escalated his criticism of the government. This time, he released a satirical video aimed at Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The video, Kamra's third in just five days, was posted on March 26 and features a parody of the Bollywood classic 'Hawa Hawai' from the 1987 film Mr. India.

Originally performed at Mumbai's Habitat Comedy Club in Khar about a month ago, the song was uploaded to YouTube last Sunday. Kamra reignited the debate by reposting the video on Wednesday-this time with popcorn emojis, widely interpreted as a jab at last year's heated GST debate on movie theatre popcorn.

Kamra's Satirical Take on Govt Policies

In the video, Kamra takes aim at the state of Mumbai's infrastructure, highlighting pothole-filled roads, Metro construction delays, and frequent bridge collapses. His satire extends to economic policies, pointing out how corporate employees often pay higher taxes than the companies they work for. He refers to Sitharaman as "sariwaali didi" and "Nirmala tai", using his signature wit to critique taxation policies.

Copyright Clash: T-Series vs Kamra

Adding to the controversy, T-Series has issued a copyright notice against Kamra over the use of the Bollywood song in his Sitharaman parody. Kamra hit back on social media platform X, accusing the music label of stifling satire.

"Hello @TSeries, stop being a stooge. Parody & satire come under fair use legally. I haven't used the lyrics or the original instrumental. If you take this video down, every cover song/dance video can be taken down. Creators, take note. Every monopoly in India is nothing short of a mafia, so watch/download this special before it's taken down. FYI - T-Series, I stay in Tamil Nadu," he wrote.

Legal Trouble Mounts

Kamra's legal woes continue to deepen. Mumbai Police issued a second summons on Wednesday after he failed to appear in response to the first. His lawyer had sought a seven-day extension, which was denied. Meanwhile, Maharashtra's Legislative Council has passed a breach of privilege motion against him over his remarks on Eknath Shinde.

During his Naya Bharat show at Mumbai's Habitat Comedy Club, Kamra had called Shinde a "gaddar" (traitor), referencing the Chief Minister's 2022 political realignment. The backlash against Kamra appears to be intensifying, but the comedian remains defiant in his critiques of the establishment.
