Kumbh Mela’s IIT Baba: As Abhey Singh Takes Spiritual Path, Family Wants Him To Return Home

Abhey Singh, a former aerospace engineer turned spiritual seeker, has made headlines after appearing in saffron attire at the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Dubbed "IIT Baba," Singh's transformation has captured widespread media attention.

Karan Grewal's Appeal

Singh's father, Karan Grewal, an advocate from Jhajjar, Haryana, expressed his family's wish for him to return home. In an interview with NDTV, Grewal said, "Our family wishes Abhey to return home," but acknowledged the unlikelihood of his son abandoning his spiritual path.

Grewal reminisced about Singh's exceptional academic achievements, including earning a degree in aerospace engineering from IIT Bombay and a master's degree in design. Singh had briefly worked in Canada for an aeroplane manufacturing company before embracing spirituality during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Cut Family Ties

Six months ago, Singh cut off all contact with his family. Grewal revealed, "I was in touch with him until six months ago, but he blocked all communication. I heard he was in Haridwar and wanted to visit him, but now he has gone viral in the media."

Singh's mother has also appealed for his return, asking him to take care of the family. However, Singh reportedly responded that his commitment to the life of a sanyasi made returning impossible.

Despite the family's concerns, Grewal stated, "Everyone has the right to live their life the way they choose, and I can't pressure him." He admitted it would be challenging to change his son's mind, adding, "In my heart, I feel that after reaching this stage, he's unlikely to listen to us."

Abhey Singh Not Missing

In a recent interview with Aaj Tak, Abhey Singh denied claims of a sudden departure, accusing seers at the Madi Ashram of spreading false information. "They spread wrong news about me," Singh said. "The operators of the ashram asked me to leave at night. Now they think I've become famous and might reveal something about them, so they're making false claims that I've gone for secret meditation."

Abhey Singh's Background

Born into a Jat family in Haryana, Singh attributed his spiritual journey to childhood trauma caused by domestic conflicts between his parents. His experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic further deepened his interest in spirituality, leading him to explore centres like Ujjain and Haridwar before fully embracing the sanyasi lifestyle.

Although his family initially supported his spiritual interests, they later became increasingly concerned, even questioning his mental health and involving the police on multiple occasions.

As "IIT Baba," Singh continues to attract public attention, his story blending elements of personal transformation, family tension, and the quest for spiritual fulfillment.
