Kumbh Mela 2025: Eye Health Initiative Aims For Guinness Record With 5 Lakh Free Eye Tests
The upcoming Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj is gearing up to set several world records, solidifying its status as the largest religious gathering on the planet. Among the record-breaking attempts, a groundbreaking initiative called the 'Netra Kumbh' (Eye Kumbh) aims to conduct free eye tests for 5,00,000 people and distribute 3,00,000 pairs of glasses-a feat poised to earn a spot in the Guinness World Records, Times of India reported.
Record-Breaking Eye Care Initiative

The 'Netra Kumbh' will be inaugurated on January 5, 2025, at Sector 5 near Nagvasuki, spanning a massive area of nearly 10 acres. Devotees attending the Mahakumbh will have access to free eye tests, and those requiring further medical attention will be referred for surgeries at nearby hospitals. The ambitious goal is to conduct 10,000 eye tests daily throughout the event.
Dr. Ranjan Bajpai, a member of the organizing committee, told the English daily that the scale of this year's initiative has doubled compared to the previous Netra Kumbh.
Other Record-Breaking Efforts at Mahakumbh
In addition to the eye health campaign, the Prayagraj Mela Authority has announced plans to attempt four other Guinness World Records during the Mahakumbh 2025, which kicks off on January 13. These include:
- The largest synchronized sweeping drive
- An extensive e-vehicle parade
- The most handprint paintings created in eight hours
- A massive river-cleaning campaign
Building on Previous Success
The previous Netra Kumbh, which also focused on large-scale eye health services, earned a spot in the Limca Book of World Records. This year, the organizers aim to elevate the event's profile by achieving Guinness World Records recognition.
With a history of a service, the Kumbh Mela 2025 promises to blend spirituality, community service, and global recognition, setting new benchmarks in both scale and impact.
