Kumari Selja Reaffirms Commitment to Congress in Meeting with Mallikarjun Kharge
Senior Congress leader Kumari Selja met with party president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday. This meeting followed her reaffirmation of loyalty to the Congress and dismissal of rumours about joining the BJP. Selja shared photos from the meeting on X, showing Kharge offering her sweets for her birthday. "My heartfelt gratitude for the love and good wishes received from Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge on my birthday today," she expressed in Hindi, alongside the images.

Her meeting with Kharge occurred after addressing most of her concerns with the party leadership. On Monday, she announced plans to campaign for the Haryana elections. Despite reports of dissatisfaction over ticket distribution, Selja dismissed any internal discord within Congress. She stated, "We will together form the government." Her comments came amid BJP's attempts to woo her, which she brushed off, asserting her commitment to strengthening Congress.
Congress Campaign Plans
Selja confirmed she would begin campaigning in two to three days. She addressed BJP's claims about her silence, stating, "Since I was silent they the BJP started talking but there is no such thing." She emphasised her identity as a committed Congress member, dismissing BJP's political manoeuvres. "Selja is a Congressi," she affirmed in a video statement.
When questioned about BJP leaders' remarks and potential defection, Selja reiterated her allegiance to Congress. She accused BJP of diverting attention from its shortcomings by speculating about her switch. Her statements followed Randeep Surjewala's announcement that Sirsa MP Selja would campaign for Congress and speak at a public event in Narwana this week.
BJP's Focus on Internal Party Dynamics
The BJP has criticised Congress over alleged internal conflicts amid reports of Selja's discontent. As a prominent Dalit leader and Congress general secretary, Selja's absence from the Haryana poll campaign has been highlighted by the ruling party. With Haryana elections scheduled for October 5, BJP has intensified its focus on Congress's internal dynamics.
Several leaders, including Bhupinder Singh Hooda, extended birthday wishes to Selja. Her interactions with Kharge came after resolving key issues with senior party members. Despite speculation about her dissatisfaction with ticket allocation, Selja remained firm in her commitment to Congress's electoral success.
Selja emphasised unity within Congress and dismissed any notion of aiding BJP through perceived disgruntlement. "There is no such thing; we will together form the government," she stated confidently. Her remarks underscored her dedication to ensuring Congress's victory in upcoming elections.
As Haryana prepares for polls, Selja's role as a significant Dalit figure remains crucial for Congress. Her recent statements and actions reflect a focus on consolidating party efforts and countering BJP narratives. The political landscape continues to evolve as parties strategise for electoral success in the state.
