Thiruvananthapuram, February 26: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his deepest condolences on the passing of renowned filmmaker and academic Kumar Shahani, describing his demise as a significant loss to the progressive movement in India. Shahani, who passed away on February 25 in Kolkata after a prolonged illness related to old age, left an indelible mark on Indian cinema with his innovative style and thought-provoking narratives.

A Creative Visionary
Vijayan acknowledged Shahani's exceptional talent in carving out a unique creative space through his innovative filmmaking techniques. Shahani's notable works, including "Maya Darpan," "Khayal Gatha," and "Tarang," are considered classics of Indian parallel cinema. His ability to blend art with social criticism and his deep commitment to the working class made him a revered figure in the film industry.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Shahani's death was not only a loss to the film industry but also to the entire progressive movement in the country.
