Kulgam Encounter Day 3: One Terrorist Killed As Security Forces Continue Operation

A terrorist has been killed in an ongoing anti-terror operation in the Akhal Devsar region of South Kashmir's Kulgam district, officials confirmed on Saturday. The operation, now in its third day, continues with security forces maintaining a tight cordon around the area.

The encounter began late on Friday night after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of militants in the area. Acting on this tip, a joint team of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Special Operations Group (SOG) launched a coordinated search.

The operation led to a fierce exchange of fire between the terrorists and security personnel, which continued throughout the night. The Indian Army's Chinar Corps provided an update via X (formerly Twitter), stating:

"OP AKHAL, Kulgam. Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact. One terrorist has been neutralised so far. The operation is ongoing."

Elsewhere, a separate exchange of gunfire was reported earlier this week near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector. On July 30, Indian Army troops monitoring the border observed suspicious movement near the fence. When the soldiers challenged two individuals seen moving under cover, the suspects opened fire.

The White Knight Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the confrontation in a statement on X, saying:
"Contact with terrorists. Suspected movement of two individuals was observed by own troops along the fence in general area of Poonch Sector. Gunfire exchanged."

Both incidents highlight the heightened state of vigilance and ongoing counter-terror efforts across Jammu and Kashmir as security forces continue operations in volatile regions.
