"Kulbhushan Jadhav is a kidnapped innocent Indian who is a retired officer of the Indian Navy," said Gopal Baglay, spokesperson for the Ministry for External Affairs. "These facts were communicated to Pakistan over an year ago. We had, in fact, made 13 requests to Pakistan to release him since he was arrested last year," he added.

"The Pakistan government has not shared any specific details about his condition," he said. "We are not aware of where he has been kept and Pakistan has not told us. As soon as the information about his death sentence was passed, the Pakistan high commissioner was summoned. We told him that there is nothing concrete and the farcical nature of the case against him was wrong. We said that we would treat it as premeditated murder," Baglay said.
