Kolkata: Young couple thrashed by mob for 'being too close' in metro
In a shocking incident of 'moral policing', a young couple in Kolkata were reportedly harassed and beaten up for "being too close" after boarding the metro train late on Monday evening.
It is learnt that the man was hugging his female friend and that was objected by few people, following which an argument ensued between the two sides.
The young couple was reportedly bombarded with embarrassing questions followed by punches, kicks, and slaps.

Following the incident, on Tuesday, a large number of youth staged protests outside Dum Dum Metro station, demanding the arrest of the people who had allegedly beaten up the couple.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Metro says no complaint has been filed yet. Metro spokesperson Indrani Banerjee told The Indian Express that they did not find anything untoward in the CCTV footage.
