Kolkata Rape-Murder: Mahua Moitra Breaks Silence, Slams BJP For Calling TMC Women MPs 'Gungi Gudiya'
The ongoing protests over the tragic rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata have sparked significant political controversy.
Amid these tensions, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has firmly denied allegations of a cover-up, responding to accusations from the opposition BJP.

Moitra addressed the criticism aimed at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC's female MPs, who were labeled as "Gungi gudiya" (mute dolls) by BJP leaders.
She defended the state government's response, stating, "The story that is going around that the state government and most of all, the chief minister and all of us who are elected representatives are indulging in some kind of systematic cover-up is absolutely wrong and incorrect."

Moitra added that CM Banerjee took immediate action upon learning of the incident, contacting the victim's family and ensuring that the prime suspect was arrested within 12 hours based on CCTV evidence.
Moitra also highlighted Mamata Banerjee's consistent advocacy for women's causes and slammed the portrayal of TMC representatives as silent on the issue.
Her statements came after Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar suggested that the silence of TMC women MPs indicated possible foul play, even alleging that a TMC MP's nephew's name had surfaced in connection with the incident.
Majumdar claimed, "In the doctor's team, many such topics have come up in their WhatsApp group... One TMC MP's nephew's name keeps coming up repeatedly... Two TMC MPs and three MLAs are alumni of the same medical college, yet they seem to have been silenced, indicating that something is amiss."
In response to the escalating situation, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari (BJP) took further action by writing to the Home Secretary and Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), requesting the deployment of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces to prevent any further destruction of evidence at the hospital.
This move followed vandalism at RG Kar Hospital, where a mob caused damage to the protest site and surrounding property.
The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association (FORDA) announced that they would resume their strike in protest of the incident, adding to the nationwide outcry.
Former Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal also addressed a letter to the West Bengal chief minister, urging severe punishment for those responsible, stating, "The inhuman atrocities inflicted upon this young woman have brought shame upon humanity and triggered widespread protests across the country."
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing the vandalism at RG Kar Hospital, alleged that the Left and BJP were colluding to create unrest in West Bengal.
She asserted that the mob involved in the vandalism was affiliated with the BJP and had no connection to the student movement, claiming, "The people who vandalised RG Kar Hospital yesterday and created this ruckus are not connected to the student movement... They are BJP people and some are DYFI holding white and red flags."
The RG Kar incident has sparked reactions from various medical fraternities, with protests erupting at hospitals in Delhi and among medical students in Kolkata, reflecting the widespread anger and demand for justice following the heinous crime.
