Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Suspect Sanjay Roy's CBI Polygraph Test Says This
Sanjay Roy, the primary suspect in the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has denied any involvement in the crime during a polygraph test conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Despite his initial confession following his arrest on August 10, Roy has since retracted his statement, claiming that he is being framed.

Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, was apprehended based on CCTV footage from the hospital that placed him at the scene. He was reportedly captured fleeing from the seminar hall where the doctor's body was discovered. His Bluetooth headset was also found at the crime scene, further implicating him.
Polygraph Test Details
The polygraph test, conducted on August 25 at Kolkata's Presidency Central Jail, involved 10 key questions posed by CBI investigators, with three polygraph experts in attendance. While Roy insisted on his innocence during the test, sources reported that several of his responses were deemed unconvincing or deceptive.
Roy reportedly told the CBI, "I didn't commit the murder. I ran from the seminar hall after seeing the body." However, the test results have raised doubts about the credibility of his statement.
CBI Investigation Progress
The CBI has ruled out the possibility of a gang rape in the incident, identifying Roy as the sole suspect. The investigation has reached its final stages, with the agency preparing to file charges. The CBI has collected over 100 witness statements, conducted 10 polygraph tests, and sent DNA evidence to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi for further analysis.
Roy's defense lawyer, Kavita Sarkar, has maintained that her client is innocent and was falsely implicated. She emphasized that Roy repeated his claims of innocence during the polygraph test. Roy has also challenged the validity of certain questions posed during the test, particularly those related to the murder.
Controversies and Additional Charges
The case has sparked widespread outrage and prompted a high-profile investigation. In addition to the rape and murder charges against Sanjay Roy, the CBI is also probing financial irregularities involving Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the principal of RG Kar Medical College at the time of the incident.
Polygraph test results, while part of the investigative process, are not admissible as evidence in Indian courts. Nevertheless, they are often used to gather additional insights and leads during the investigation. The CBI is expected to submit its final report once all forensic and investigative processes are complete.
This tragic incident has caused shockwaves across Kolkata and the medical community, with protests demanding swift justice for the victim and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Further developments in the case are expected as the CBI prepares to present its findings to the court, and Sanjay Roy's legal team continues to challenge his arrest and the evidence against him.
