Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: CBI Files Chargesheet Against Accused Sanjay Roy

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a charge sheet against Sanjay Roy in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital.

Sanjay Roy has been accused of raping and murdering the doctor inside the hospital on 9 August.

Chargesheet Filed Against Sanjay Roy

The victim was assaulted and killed in the hospital's seminar room, where she had gone to rest during her marathon shift after midnight. Her body was discovered by a junior doctor the following morning.

Her post-mortem confirmed that she had been raped and murdered, revealing 25 internal and external injuries on her body.

Sanjay Roy, a civil volunteer with Kolkata police, was a regular presence at the hospital.

CCTV footage showed Roy entering the seminar room at 4:03 am on 9 August, leaving approximately half an hour later.

The Kolkata police also found Roy's Bluetooth headphones at the scene of the crime.

Once the CBI took over the investigation, Roy underwent a lie detector test, during which he professed his innocence. He claimed that the woman was already unconscious when he entered the seminar room.

When asked why he failed to alert the police, Roy stated that he panicked upon seeing the woman in a distressed state. However, the CBI reportedly said he was attempting to mislead investigators.

Roy also claimed that he was being framed.

The CBI has additionally arrested Dr Sandeep Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, for allegedly misleading the victim's parents and tampering with evidence.

Ghosh allegedly attempted to portray the murder as a suicide and made the victim's parents wait for three hours before allowing them to see the body. The agency has also detained a local police officer.

Reports suggest that Ghosh was involved in corrupt activities, including selling unclaimed corpses.
