Kolkata gangrape victim was pregnant: Police

The girl who succumbed to burn injuries on Wednesday was set ablaze by the people who had gangraped her on October 25. She was raped twice, the police said.
The schoolgirl, daughter of a taxi driver and CITU member, was gangraped on October 25 in North Kolkata. She was admitted to hospital with severe burns on Dec 23. It was believed that the girl, unable to bear the social humiliation and threats by the accused, had tried to commit suicide. The girl's family had alleged that the girl was murdered and had also accused the hospital authorities of medical negligence.
The girl's father has lodged a complaint against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee who handles Health portfolio. The family on Wednesday had met WB governor and sought security for themselves. The Left parties held a major protest march in the city after the news of her death broke. The girl's body was cremated on Wednesday afternoon.
