Kolkata Doctor Case: Who Were The People In The Viral Crime Scene Pic?
Amid controversy surrounding the viral photograph of the crime scene where the body of a post-graduate medic was found, Kolkata Police clarified on Friday that all individuals present in the cordoned-off area were authorised personnel.
The photograph, which surfaced on social media, showed several people inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College, where the alleged rape and murder of the 31-year-old doctor took place. Concerns were raised that unauthorised persons might have entered the crime scene, potentially tampering with evidence.

DC (Central) Indira Mukherjee assured the public that everyone captured in the viral photograph was involved in the investigation.
"We have seen a news channel showing a video and pictures of the seminar hall, the scene of this case, showing many people inside the cordoned-off area. It is not clear who these people are," Mukherjee said during a press briefing.
"It was alleged that some individuals not supposed to be there might have tampered with evidence. We have reviewed stills from the video and identified each person present in the picture," she added.
**Who Was Present at the Kolkata Hospital Crime Scene?**
Mukherjee explained that the photograph was taken after the inquest process had been completed. Present at the scene were a videographer from the detective department, the Commissioner of Police, Additional CP-1, Lady Police, forensic officials, a witness doctor, a fingerprint expert, and the ACP of the detective department.
"At no point did anyone unauthorised enter the area. Only those associated with the investigation were allowed inside," Mukherjee said, dismissing claims of unauthorised access.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), now leading the probe, had earlier told the Supreme Court that the crime scene had been altered before they took charge, suggesting a possible cover-up by local authorities.
The incident has sparked widespread protests and public outcry over the investigation's handling.
Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested on August 10 after the victim's body was discovered in the seminar hall. The arrest followed the recovery of a Bluetooth device near the body and CCTV footage placing Roy at the crime scene. The accused allegedly had close ties with some senior Kolkata Police officers, leading to his transfer to the force's Welfare Board.
