Know Who Is Priya Nair? First Woman CEO Of Hindustan Unilever

Priya Nair is set to become the new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), starting August 1, 2025. This appointment marks a significant milestone as she will be the first woman to lead the company in its 92-year history. Nair will succeed Rohit Jawa, who will step down on July 31, 2025.

Priya Nair's journey with HUL began in 1995, where she held various leadership roles in home care, beauty, and personal care sectors. Her early positions included Consumer Insights Manager and Brand Manager for products like Dove, Rin, and Comfort. Over time, she advanced to oversee marketing for the laundry business and later managed oral care, deodorants, and customer development.

Leadership Transition at HUL

Currently serving as President of Beauty & Wellbeing at Unilever, Nair oversees one of the company's fastest-growing global divisions. She joined the HUL Board and remains a member of the Unilever Leadership Executive (ULE), pending necessary approvals. Her elevation to global roles was driven by her strong performance in India.

Nitin Paranjpe, Chairman of Hindustan Unilever, expressed confidence in her abilities: "Priya has had an outstanding career in HUL and Unilever. I am certain that with her deep understanding of the Indian market and excellent track record, Priya will take HUL to the next level of performance," he stated.

Educational Background
Nair completed her Bachelor of Commerce in Accounts & Statistics from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics between 1987 and 1992. She then pursued an MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune (1992-1994). Additionally, she attended Harvard Business School for a programme in Business Administration and Management.

Rohit Jawa's tenure as CEO and MD began in 2023. Under his leadership, HUL achieved volume-led growth despite challenges such as muted urban demand and slow recovery in discretionary categories. Jawa is stepping down to explore other opportunities both personally and professionally.

In 2022, Nair was appointed Global Chief Marketing Officer for Unilever's Beauty & Wellbeing unit. By 2023, she became President of this division. Her career progression reflects her dedication and expertise within the company over nearly three decades.
