Know Who Is B Srinivasan, Newly Appointed NSG Director General

The Centre has appointed B Srinivasan, a 1992 Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, as the director general of the National Security Guard (NSG). Srinivasan, from the Bihar cadre, will take over from Nalin Prabhat, who has been deputed as Jammu and Kashmir's Special Director General of Police.

Prabhat's tenure as NSG director general was shortened to facilitate his transfer to the Union Territories cadre (AGMUT) for three years. He will assume his new role in Jammu and Kashmir following RR Swain's retirement on September 30.

New Leadership at NSG

The Ministry of Personnel issued an order stating, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved appointment of Srinivasan as Director General, NSG, from the date of joining the post and up to August 31, 2027 i.e., the date of his superannuation." This marks a significant change in leadership for the elite counter-terrorism unit.

During Prabhat's transition period, Anish Dayal Singh was given additional charge of NSG. A notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 15 stated, "Anish Dayal Singh, a 1988-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Manipur cadre, will hold the additional charge of director general (DG) NSG till the joining of the regular incumbent or until further orders whichever is earlier."

Prabhat's Distinguished Career

Nalin Prabhat has had an illustrious career with numerous accolades. He has been awarded three Police Gallantry Medals and the Parakram Padak. His extensive experience includes key roles within the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), where he served as Inspector General of Operations and Additional Director General in Kashmir.

The Centre's decision to appoint Srinivasan comes after careful consideration by the Appointments Committee. This move aims to ensure continuity and stability within India's premier counter-terrorism force.

Daljit Singh Chawdhary recently took over as BSF director general. The Centre continues to make strategic appointments to strengthen national security apparatuses across various regions.

Srinivasan's appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives and strategies to NSG operations. His leadership will be crucial in maintaining and enhancing the operational readiness and effectiveness of this elite force.

This leadership change reflects ongoing efforts by authorities to optimise security management across India. With Srinivasan at the helm, NSG is poised for continued excellence in safeguarding national interests.
