Chennai, Feb 15: The case of more than 120 All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam legislators loyal to Sasikala Natarajan and lodged in a resort in Koovathur, Tamil Nadu, is getting murkier with the passage of time. On Wednesday, Madurai (South) MLA SS Saravanan filed a kidnapping case against convicted AIADMK general secretary and newly-elected AIADMK legislature party leader Edappadi K Palanisamy in Koovathur Police Station, say media reports.
Earlier, Saravanan jumped over from the Sasikala camp and joined the rival camp of caretaker Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. Saravanan claimed that he escaped the private resort in Koovathur in disguise, where he had been humiliated mentally and physically.
Addressing a press meet on Monday, Saravanan said he was insulted and humiliated physically and mentally during his five-day stay at the resort. He said he had meticulously planned to sneak away in disguise before Sasikala reached there on Monday afternoon. "When a kitten like me can escape, I am sure other cubs will come out and join hands with Pannerselvam soon," he said.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court convicted Sasikala and three of her accomplices in the disproportionate assets case. Thus, she is no more the claimant to the CM's post. In fact, on Wednesday, Sasikala left for Bengaluru to surrender at a trail court and serve four years of imprisonment.
However, her supporters claim that they have the numbers and under the leadership of Palanisamy, they are forming the government in the state. At present, Panneerselvam has the support of 11 MLAs and 12 parliamentarians. The Sasikala camp says it has the support of more than 120 MLAs.
